Seat On The Korner: Calvin Faucher
We select the star of the game and virtually invite him to a Seat on the Korner, just as Ralph Kiner used to do for his studio postgame show on WOR-channel 9 broadcasts in the early decades of the Mets.

Marlins reliever Calvin Faucher earns the seat next to Ralph for his work in maintaining the lead when it appeared the Mets were on the verge of taking the lead in the 6th inning and tying the game in the 7th inning. Faucher has been Miami's closer but he was brought on early to pitch an inning and a third of scoreless ball.
Need To Know:
Francisco Lindor hit his 9th leadoff home run of the season.
The Mets hit 4 home runs and set a franchise record for a single month with their 53rd home run in August.
Juan Soto hit two home runs and now has 35 on the season. It was Soto's fifth multi-HR game of the season, 28th of his career to extend his record of having the most before turning 27 years of age.
Mark Vientos hit his 8th home run in his last 13 games. Vientos is slashing .353/.403/.902 with an OPS of 1.305 and 20 runs batted in over that span. Overall, in August, Vientos is hitting .286 with 8 home runs and 22 runs batted in.
Marlins pitcher Edward Cabrera has posted a 5.80 ERA (23 earned runs in 35.2 IP) in 9 career starts vs. the Mets.
Jeff McNeil ended a 0 for 13 skid with a leadoff triple in the 7th.
Mets DFA'd Jose Castillo and recalled Chris Devenski from Syracuse for his fifth stint this season.
Mets fell to 0-55 when trailing after 8 innings.
Mets are in the midst of 16 straight games without an off day. They are 7-5 in that stretch.
Mets fell to 5-4 vs. Miami this season, 12-10 the past two seasons.
Turning Point:
The Mets were playing uphill all game long, but they battled back from deficits of 5-0 and 8-2 to tie the game at 8 on Juan Soto's second home run of the game in the bottom of the 6th. The Mets had the momentum and with the way the offense has been performing of late, it appeared they would be able to overcome a one run deficit after the Marlins regained the lead in the top of the 7th. Jeff McNeil snapped a 0 for 13 skid with a leadoff triple down the left field line and the Mets were in business, With the infield in, Marlins pitcher and winner Calvin Faucher got Brett Baty to ground out to second, pinch-hitter Starling Marte struck out and Cedric Mullins lined out to left fielder Jakob Marsee to nullify the threat and take the air out of the Mets balloon.
Three Things:
First Things First
David Peterson gave up a career high 8 runs in 2+ innings. Peterson gave up 5 earned runs in the first inning. The left hander had given up 3 earned runs total in the first inning in his previous 46 starts (a span of two seasons). In his last five starts, Peterson has posted a 7.56 ERA (21 earned runs in 25 innings pitched).
Miami Vise
After Soto tied the game in the sixth, Brandon Nimmo lined a two out double that just clipped the foul line in right field. With the go ahead run in scoring position, Calvin Faucher was brought on and got the red hot Vientos to fly out to nullify the threat. Faucher, Ronny Henriquez and Tyler Phillips combined for 3.1 scoreless innings to finish the game as the Marlins bullpen put the clamps on the Mets offense.
Wiemer Schnitzel
Marlins right fielder Joey Wiemer, who was hitting .143 coming into the game, had three hits and three runs batted in. In the top of the first, Wiemer drove a ball to left field that was misplayed by Brandon Nimmo for a two run double that gave the Marlins a 5-0 lead. Wiemer, who added an RBI single in the third, made a key defensive play in the Mets half of the first. After Francisco Lindor's lead off home run cut Miami's lead to 5-1, Juan Soto was hit by a pitch. Pete Alonso hit a "seeing-eye" single between first and second and Soto tried to go to third, but Wiemer gunned him down for the first out of the inning. Wiemer was scheduled to play left field, but moved to right when Dane Myers was injured in the top of the first.
