It wasn't especially pretty but it sure was quality. Mets starting pitcher Sean Manaea threw 99 pitches over 6 innings to lead the Mets to a 6-3 victory over the Texas Rangers in Arlington. The veteran southpaw ran into trouble in the second, third, and fourth innings, but managed to escape significant damage, holding the Rangers to 3 runs (all earned) on 3 hits, 2 walks, and 2 hit batsmen, striking out 9, and earning the Seat on the Korner in the process.

It was Manea's 7th quality start in 2026. He also became the second Mets pitcher to win 6 games this season. (Tomorrow night's starter, Nolan McLean, leads the team with 11 wins.)

Need to Know

• Hours before the game started, the Mets removed the "interim" tag from manager Andy Green's title, and announced that they had signed him to a 3-year deal to manage the time. For more, check this out.

• Tonight was the first game of the Mets final road trip of 2026. They are now 36-40 away from home.

• They Mets will play 2 more in Texas before closing out the season with a 3-game series against the Nationals in Washington, D.C.

• Francisco Alvarez had his 3rd straight multi-hit game, this time with 2 doubles. He also had 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored.

• One of Alvarez's runs scored came home on an aggressive play, scoring from third on a Luis Torrens foul pop to first baseman Jake Burger.

• Luis Torrens had a rare rough night behind the plate with 2 passed balls. He now has 4 on the season.

• Juan Soto and Carson Benge also had 2 hits and 1 RBI each.

Turning Point

After the Mets squandered Francisco Alvarez's first run scoring shot of the night, giving up the tying and go-ahead runs run at the bottom of the inning, the Mets designated hitter brought home 2 with his second two-bagger of the night. This one put the Mets ahead 4-3, and they never looked back.

Honor Among Thieves

With 2 outs in the top of the 6th, Mets rookie AJ Ewing stole second for his 25th swipe of the season, setting the new Mets rookie record. The previous record was set in 1981 when Mookie Wilson stole 24. Not too far behind them is another Mets 2026 rookie, Carson Benge who is currently tied with Lee Mazzilli for 3rd with 22.

Strong Like Bull-pen

While starting pitcher Sean Manaea earned his Seat on the Korner with a quality start, tonight's trio of Mets relievers put up nearly-identical numbers in keeping the Rangers off the board. Nate Lavender, Dedniel Nunez, and Kodai Senga, each threw a scoreless inning without giving up any hits or walks, and striking out two. Senga's was the only non-1-2-3, as he hit Nicky Lopez with a pitch with one out in the 9th inning.

And heeeeeere's Carson

On a night when the Mets saw old friend Brandon Nimmo for the first time since he was on the team, it was his rookie replacement, Carson Benge, who continued to allow them to think of the future. In the top of the 4th inning, Benge hit a ground-rule double and eventually came around to score on a Francisco Alvarez double, putting the Mets ahead 2-1. Two innings later, Benge walked, and then came around to score on a (2-run) double by Alvarez, putting the Mets back ahead, 4-3. Then, in the 7th inning, Benge provided some RBI magic of his own, as his second double of the game brought home Brett Baty with the Mets 6th run.

On the season, Benge is now batting .277, with 83 runs scored, 19 HRs, 62 RBIs, 22 stolen bases, a .341 OBP, and a .764 OPS. This includes his disastrous April, in which he hit just .192, with a .260 OPS, with 1 HR and 5 RBI's, and 17 strikeouts in 73 at-bats.
