Seat on the Korner: Bo Bichette

We select a Star of the Game and virtually invite him to take his Seat on the Korner — just as Ralph Kiner did on WOR-TV Channel 9 during the early days of the New York Mets.

Continuing the tradition of Rheingold Beer sponsoring Kiner’s Korner, this season every seat is proudly presented by The Main Event Restaurant & Sports Bar.

With locations in Plainview and Farmingdale, The Main Event features 80+ HD TVs, fresh daily seafood, and Black Angus certified steaks—so you never have to choose between great food and the big game.

For the first time this season, Bo Bichette gets the coveted seat on the Korner. Bichette made some news after Sunday's game with his response to his early season struggles. On being booed by the home fans the first year Met said, "If anything, I thought it [the boos] took too long. I get it, I thought my at-bats were terrible, too."

Need to Know

  • Clay Holmes gave up two runs in 5.2 IP to record his first win of the season. Holmes has now made three career starts against the Cardinals and is 3-0 in those outings with a 3.06 ERA against the Redbirds.

  • Francisco Lindor led off the game with a triple, his second in two days. Lindor, who did not have a triple all last season, became the second Met to have two triples within the first four games of the season (Jose Reyes had two triples in game four of the 2007 season).

  • Juan Soto was 1 for 3 and is hitting .353 (6 for 17) with one run, one double and four runs batted in.

  • Bo Bichette enjoys hitting in St. Louis. In 9 games at Busch Stadium, Bichette, who had one hit, is now 14 for 42 (.333). In 11 career games against the Cardinals, Bichette is hitting .350 (17 for 50).

  • Mets are 29-33 at Busch Stadium since the ballpark opened in 2006. Mets were 5-2 (4-0 at home, 1-2 on the road) vs. the Cardinals in 2025.

  • Jorge Polanco is dealing with a sore achilles but he was 2 for 5 as the DH.

  • Jared Young got the start at 1B. Young's RBI double in the sixth gave the Mets a 3-1 lead.

  • Carson Benge made his first Major League start in centerfield and had the first multi hit game of his career.

  • Cardinals 3B Nolan Gorman ended an 0 for 8 skid against Holmes in the sixth inning with a towering, solo home run into the right field stands.

Turning Point

Bo Bichette had only one hit but it was a big one. With the score tied at one in the fifth, the Mets had runners on first and third with two out. Bichette, who came into the at bat 0 for his last 10 and 1 for 16 overall, lined a single to right field to score the go ahead run and the Mets were never headed. Bichette, who admitted after Sunday's loss that he was pressing, swung so hard that he fell down at the plate but recovered to make it to first safely to savor his first real big moment as a Met. Bichette, who was 1 for 5 with two runs batted in, is 2 for 19 (.105) through the first four games.

Three Keys

Devin-th Heaven

Devin Williams pitched a dominant 1-2-3 ninth inning to record his first save as a Met. Williams did not allow a ball out of the infield as he got Nolan Gorman on a pop out to Bo Bichette at third, a foul pop out by Jordan Walker to Brett Baty and then ended the game by striking out Nathan Church on four pitches. Williams became the 206th different player to record a save for the Mets.

Pen is Bullish

After starter Clay Holmes gave the Mets 5.2 solid innings, Tobias Myers, Brooks Raley and Devin Williams locked down the win with 3.1 scoreless innings. In the first four games, the Mets bullpen has posted a 2.00 ERA in 18 innings with 17 strikeouts. Myers relieved Holmes after Nolan Gorman's home run in the sixth and retired Jordan Walker on one pitch on a fly out to center to nullify any Cardinals momentum. Myers then struck out the side on 13 pitches in the seventh.

Click Wait

Mets have won three of their first four games and the offense has shown some signs of breaking out but they've yet to click. The Mets had 10 hits but were 1 for 14 with RISP and are now 11 for 53 (.208) with RISP in the first four games. Marcus Semien is 2 for 14 (.153) while Francisco Lindor is off to his usual slow start (3 for 14, .214). The Mets have scored 22 runs on 36 hits in the first four games but they've only matched their opening day total of 11 runs in the past three games.
