We select the star of the game and virtually invite him to a Seat on the Korner, just as Ralph Kiner used to do for his studio postgame show on WOR-channel 9 broadcasts in the early decades of the Mets.

Today's Seat On The Korner goes to Mets Killer Matt Olson, Olson for the series went (.333 5-15, 2 HR, 4 RBI, 2R BB) He has a batting average of .269 with 42 hits, 14 home runs, 35 RBIs and 29 runs scored in 44 games against the Mets in his career.

  • Jesse Winker made his Met debut striking out as a pinch hitter in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Turning Point

The turning point of the game occurred in the fourth inning when David Peterson, who had been pitching well, saw things unravel rapidly. The inning started with Austin Riley drawing a walk, followed by Marcell Ozuna singling to right field, advancing Riley to second. Matt Olson then delivered a crushing blow, launching a three-run homer to right field, giving the Braves a 3-0 lead. The trouble continued as Travis d'Arnaud walked, moved to second on a wild pitch, and advanced to third on Nacho Alvarez Jr.'s single. Peterson's control issues persisted, and another wild pitch allowed d'Arnaud to score. Orlando Arcia walked, loading the bases, and a groundout and a force out by Francisco Lindor provided two quick outs. However, the damage was done as Adam Duvall's flyout ended the inning, but not before the Braves had taken a commanding 4-0 lead, capitalizing on Peterson's struggles and defensive lapses..

Three Keys

Montblanc vs Bic Pen

The Braves bullpen showcased a masterful performance when needed after Reynaldo López left after 3 innings as a precaution due to right forearm tightness, the first three relievers out of the bullpen Dylan Lee, Pierce Johnson and A.J. Minter turned in four scoreless innings of relief while the Braves built up a 9-0 lead. Conversely, the Mets bullpen struggled significantly, allowing five runs on four hits, including three devastating home runs.

Polar Bear Finally Breaks Ice

Pete Alonso's eighth-inning two-run home run off Jimmy Herget ended an agonizing stretch of over 20 innings without scoring a single run. This drought had been a significant source of frustration for the team, with their offense struggling to find any rhythm or momentum. It was Pete's 21st home run of the season and his 54th and 55th RBI of the year.

Not the Squirrels Day.

After his first nine games following the All-Star break, Jeff McNeil was batting .387 (12-for-31) with eight runs, four doubles, four home runs, one walk, and nine RBI. In 19 games since the start of the series vs. Pittsburgh on July 5, McNeil is batting .316 (18-for-57) with 12 runs, seven doubles, five home runs, 14 RBI, four walks, one steal, a .355 OBP, a .702 SLG, and a 1.057 OPS. He has recorded 224 career multi-hit games, placing him 14th in Mets history, with Buddy Harrelson next at 231. McNeil's 798 hits are 15th in franchise history, and he ranks 12th with 164 doubles, with Mookie Wilson at 11th with 170 two-baggers. He cooled off a bit today, going 0-for-4 with a strikeout, dropping his post-All-Star break average to a still impressive .342.
