Seat on the Korner:

We select the star of the game and virtually invite him to a Seat on the Korner, just as Ralph Kiner used to do for his studio postgame show on WOR-channel 9 broadcasts in the early decades of the Mets.

Juan Soto snapped a 6-6 tie with an RBI single in the top of the 10th, as the Mets came from behind to beat the Orioles, 7-6 at Camden Yards. Soto, who answered his All-Star snub with three hits to earn the seat next to Ralph, swung at the first pitch of the 10th from Orioles' reliever Yennier Cano and drove it into centerfield to score ghost runner Francisco Lindor from second base with the eventual winning run. Edwin Diaz pitched a scoreless ninth, but Manager Carlos Mendoza did not bring him back for the 10th. Instead, Mendoza gambled and went to Huascar Brazoban who kept the Orioles off the board for his second career save to preserve the win.

Need to Know

  • This was the first time all season that the Mets rallied from four runs down to win a game.

  • The Mets are 31-20 all time vs. the Orioles in regular season play (16-13 at Camden Yards), 4-1 in World Series play.

  • Mets are 20-25 on the road this season. They are 14-14 in interleague play, 39-25 vs. NL teams and 5-4 in extra innings.

  • Mets starter Clay Holmes allowed his first career earned run at Camden Yards in the bottom of the third (15.1 IP).

  • Francisco Lindor hit his 18th home run and now has 51 RBI. Lindor is the 4th Met (Pete Alonso, Juan Soto, Brandon Nimmo) to have 50 or more runs batted in this season.

  • Pete Alonso hit his 21st home run and he is now five shy of tying Darryl Strawberry's franchise record of 252.

  • Ronny Mauricio continues to develop. Mauricio hit a solo home run, his 4th of the season and is batting .326 with two home runs and four runs batted in over his last 13 games. The 24-year-old also flashed some leather at third base with a couple of nice defensive plays, that included starting an inning ending double play in the eighth.

  • Jesse Winker returned to the lineup for the first time since 5/4 and was 0 for 2. Starling Marte was placed on the 10-day IL with a knee bruise.

  • Mets selected the contract of hard throwing right hand reliever Alex Carrillo from Triple-A Syracuse and designated pitcher Zach Pop for assignment. Carrillo made his Major League debut and gave up just a Jackson Holliday home run in 1.1 IP.

  • Luis Torrens was 1 for 2 in throwing out runners attempting to steal. Torrens has caught 11 of 29 (38%) potential base stealers this season. Torrens also picked off Ramon Laureano at third base to end the sixth inning.

  • Orioles starting pitcher Brandon Young threw an immaculate inning against the Mets. The rookie right hander struck out Jesse Winker, Jeff McNeil and Luis Torrens on nine pitches in the top of the fifth.

  • Brandon Nimmo played in his 999th game and is seeking to become the 11th Met to play in 1000 games. Ed Kranepool is the franchise leader in games played with 1853.

  • Manager Carlos Mendoza said the plan is for Kodai Senga to pitch game one of the series against Kansas City on Friday. Senga has not pitched since injuring his hamstring against the Washington Nationals on June 12th. Sean Manaea may pitch on Sunday in KC as part of a combination with Clay Holmes.

Turning Point

The Mets were trailing 6-2 in the top of the eighth, but the bats exploded for four runs to tie the game. Orioles' reliever Bryan Baker started the inning and faced the Mets' top four batters in the lineup but did not record an out. Brandon Nimmo singled and Francisco Lindor hit a two-run homer to make it a 6-4 game. Juan Soto singled and then Pete Alonso tied the game with a two-run homer.

Three Keys

Pete's a Honeymooner at "Kramden" Yards

Pete Alonso now has 6 home runs and 11 RBI in 15 career games against the Orioles. In eight career games at Camden Yards, Alonso has 5 home runs and 10 RBI. Alonso now has 63 career home runs in Interleague play, fifth most in Major League history.

RIP to RISP Success

The Orioles were 4 for 5 against Clay Holmes with runners in scoring position. Coming into the game, opposing batters were hitting .111 (7 for 62) against Holmes with runners in scoring position.

Extended Holliday Weekend

Orioles' shortstop Jackson Holliday, who was 4 for 4 in his last game, was 2 for 4 with a home run, two runs scored and two runs batted in. Holliday is 7 for his last 13 with two home runs, three runs scored, and five runs batted in over his last three games.
