Seat on the Korner: Ryan Jeffers
We select the star of the game and virtually invite him to a Seat on the Korner, just as Ralph Kiner used to do for his studio postgame show on WOR-channel 9 broadcasts in the early decades of the Mets.

Tonight’s Seat on the Korner goes to Twins catcher, Ryan Jeffers. Minnesota's power-hitting catcher has relatively powerless all season while dealing with a thumb injury. Tonight though, Jeffers came out strong, going 3-3 with 2 doubles, a single, a hit by pitch, and a run scored. Jeffers first double came in the 4th inning and was inches away from a 2-run home run that would have put the Twins ahead 4-2. In fact, the umpires initially called it a home run, but a Mets replay challenge overturned the call. Jeffers had 43 extra-base hits last season (22 doubles, 21 home runs) but entered tonight's game with just 3 doubles on the season.
Need to Know
The Mets, along with the rest of Major League Baseball, celebrated Jackie Robinson Day tonight, as all players, managers, and coaches across MLB wore Robinson's #42.
The loss dropped the Mets Jackie Robinson Day record to 15-4.
The Mets are now 7-4 in Interleague Play this season...
They went 24-22 in Interleague Play last year and 285-280 overall.
With his first inning home run tonight, Pete Alonso has now hit 59 career interleague home runs, tops in Mets franchise history, and tying him with Manny Machado for third among active players.
Former Mets outfielder Harrison Bader brok an 0-14 streak with a single in the third inning. He ended up going 3-4 tonight with a stolen base, a run scored and an RBI.
The Mets will go for their fifth straight series victory (third on the road) against the Twins tomorrow afternoon.
Griffin Canning was supposed to be tomorrow's starter, but has been scratched due to illness. The Mets have not announced who will start in his place.
Turning Point
The turning point of the game came a bit earlier in the game than turning points usually do. With the Mets up 1-0 in the bottom of the third inning, the Twins got a leadoff single from Harrison Bader, and then a one-out single by Byron Buxton to put runners on the corner. Mets starter Tylor Megill got the next batter, DaShawn Keirsey, on a bunt pop out, and it looked like the Mets could get out of the inning unscathed. When the next batter, Ty France, grounded to the normally sure-handed Francisco Lindor, it seems like the Mets would escape, however Lindor booted the ball and Bader scored the tying run. This was followed by a Carlos Correa RBI single that scored Buxton, and just like that, the Mets were down 2-1. Even though they tied the game up moments later, the damage had been done, and these two unearned runs would certainly come back to haunt them later in the game.
Three Keys
Another Solo for Soto
For the second straight night, Juan Soto hit a solo home run. This time to tie the game 2-2 in the top of the 4th. It was Soto's 3 home run and 7th RBI on the season. He has now hit safely in 16 of the Mets 17 games this year.
A Small Krack in the Armor
Max Kranick, or Multi-Inning Max as I've started to call him, has been lights out all season so far. Tonight though, the lights remained on a bit, as he gave up a 2-out RBI single in the 6th inning, and then a solo home run to Brooks Lee in the 7th inning. They were the first 2 runs he's given up all season, and in fact were the first 2 runs he's given up since 5/7/22 while pitching for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Down But Not Out On the Farm
Mets catcher Francisco Alvarez hit a home run in a rehab start for the Binghamton Rumble Ponies. It was Alvarez's first home run this season as he works his way back from a broken hammate bone in his left hand.
Later in the game, however, Alvarez was hit by a pitch on that very same left hand.
Fortunately, he was checked out by the trainers and given the okay to keep playing. He stayed in the game and catch in the bottom of the inning.
A bit further south, Jeff McNeil continued his rehab with Single-A Port St. Lucie. He went 1-3 tonight with a single and 2 walks.
