Just a few weeks after the Mets lost to the Braves by a 14-3 score, they returned the favor on Monday night. A fourteen run output by any team is impressive, by this Mets team is unexpected, and by a lineup without Juan Soto is almost unbelievable. To that notion, however, Francisco Lindor said, "hold my beer." (Or whatever he likes to drink.) It didn't take long for Lindor's night to get going. With the Mets down 1-0 in the bottom of the first, his triple to right drove home AJ Ewing with the tying run.

Two innings later, Lindor untied the game with a 2-run HR to left.

After a triple and a home run in his first two at-bats, fans were understandably beginning to think "cycle." Ultimately, that wasn't to be. Even so, Lindor's impactful night was far from over. In the 8th inning, with the game well out of reach for the Braves, Lindor picked a fine way to close out his night, this time with a 3-run HR.

In all, Lindor went 3-5, with a triple, two home runs, a walk, 2 runs scored, and 6 RBIs. And, of course, a Seat on the Korner.

Turning Point

Tonight's turning point was in the 6th inning of a 3-3 tie, when Marcus Semien continued his recent power surge by launching a 2-run upper deck shot that put the Mets ahead. And they never looked back.

It was Semien's second straight game with a home run, and his third in his last five games. Over his last six games, Semien is batting .315, with 3 home runs, 5 runs scored, and 6 RBIs.

Three Keys

Taylor Time

Take a look at the Mets lineup and you might notice that Tyrone Taylor, the Mets 4th outfielder, leads the team in OPS (.799). As has been noted here previously, Taylor has been putting up some unexpectedly good numbers at the plate, often in clutch moments. His three-run home run tonight, his ninth of the season and third in his last six games, increased the lead to 8-3, giving the Mets a much appreciated bit of breathing room. It was his 6th home run in his last 38 at-bats since coming off the injured list.

After hitting just three home runs at home since joining the Mets in 2024, Taylor has five Citi Field home runs this season.

A Thornton in Their Side

Mets rookie starting pitcher Zac Thornton continued his impressive beginning to his career. On the night, the young lefty went 6.1 innings, giving up 3 runs on 5 hits with 1 walk and 5 Ks, earning his second career win. It was his 4th-straight Quality Start (in 5 major league games).

Bo-nus

Do you remember a few months ago when any time Bo Bichette had a good game fans and media thought he was about to break out of his early season slump? And then, he didn't?

Well guess what, without much fanfare, Bo Bichette has put together a couple of impressive months at the plate. After going 3-5 tonight (with a sac-fly), Bichette now has 30 multi-hit games this season. Since June 3rd (25 games), Bichette is batting .328, with 24 runs scored, 9 doubles, 1 triple, 5 home runs, 10 walks, and 25 RBIs.

More recently, he has hit safely in seven of his last eight games, including five multi-hit contests.
