Martin Perez, the Braves 35-year-old southpaw might not have the flashiest numbers but he entered Tuesday night's Mets game with a modest 12-inning scoreless streak. By the time he left the game, with the Braves up 1-0, that streak was up to 18, the third-longest active streak among MLB starting pitchers. Perez has only given up runs in two of the 25 innings he's pitched since the All-Star Break. Turning Point

As good as Martin Perez was tonight, Mets starter Nolan McLean was able to match him through the first few innings. In fact, for a little while it might have even seemed to some that McLean had the upper hand, as he got through the first four innings without giving up a hit. That all changed when Ozzie Albies led off the bottom of the 5th with a solo home run to right.

This blast was Albie's 3rd against the Mets this season, and 25th against them in his career. The hit came on an 0-2 count, which has been Albies' specialty this year. He is among the league leaders in batting average and OPS on 0-2 counts.

Three Keys

Unwelcome Matt

With the Braves holding onto a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 8th, slugging first baseman Matt Olson launched a 2-run shot to right. The home run tied Olson with Yordan Alvarez and Kyle Schwarber for the Major League lead with 35.

Olson now has 7 home runs against the Mets this season, and 22 in 72 career games against them.

Nolan Right Along

Nolan McLean's rookie season is nearing its end and with the Mets focused on 2027 and beyond, they are limiting his innings. Still, McLean made the most of his 6 innings tonight, with the Ozzie Albies home run as his only blemish.

Despite taking a hard-luck loss, McLean threw 6 innings (85 pitches) of 1-hit ball, giving up just the 1 run, while walking 2 and striking out 3.

Even though the Mets offense was obviously lacking, their defense behind McLean was stellar. Franciscos Alvarez and Lindor, Marcus Semien, and AJ Ewing were highlights in a solid performance by the Mets fielders.
