Seat on the Korner: Jake McCarthy
We select a Star of the Game and virtually invite him to take his Seat on the Korner — just as Ralph Kiner did on WOR-TV Channel 9 during the early days of the New York Mets.
Continuing the tradition of Rheingold Beer sponsoring Kiner’s Korner, this season every seat is proudly presented by The Main Event Restaurant & Sports Bar.
With locations in Plainview and Farmingdale, The Main Event features 80+ HD TVs, fresh daily seafood, and Black Angus certified steaks—so you never have to choose between great food and the big game.

A day after hitting his first home run as a member of the Rockies, outfielder Jake McCarthy hit his second, this one in the form of a game-breaking 8th inning grand slam. McCarthy's home run put the Rockies ahead 6-2. All this coming after his game-tying double in the 6th inning. In all, McCarthy went 2-4 with a run scored and 5 RBIs, earning him a high-altitude Seat on the Korner.
Need to Know
The Mets took the lead with a 2-run second inning, but were then held scoreless for the rest of the game.
Mets batters went 1-9 with runners in scoring position.
The Mets fell short of their first series sweep since they took three straight from the Phillies late in August 2025.
This is the third Mets road trip so far this season. They are now 8-11 in road games.
The team now travels to Arizona to take on the Diamondbacks for 3 games before returning to Queens.
Turning Point
With the game tied at 2 in the bottom of the 8th, Mets reliever Craig Kimbrel gave up consecutive singles to start the inning. Kimbrel next faced Willi Castro, in need of a strikeout. He worked the count to 2-2 then unloaded a 95mph fastball just above the strike zone. Castro tried checking his swing and while some think he went too far, the umpires didn't. Ball 3 soon led to ball 4 which loaded the bases, which then led to this...
The grand slam put the Rockies ahead 6-2, and they never looked back.
Three Keys
GREAT SCOTT!
Mets starting pitcher Christian Scott turned in another fine outing, going 4.2 innings, giving up a run on 3 hits with 2 walks and 6 strikeouts. In 3 starts this season, Scott has a 3.27 ERA, with 15 Ks in 11 innings pitched, and a 1.18 WHIP. Since his rough first outing in which he walked 5 in 1.1 innings, Scott has struck out 14 while only walking 2.
However, after 12 career starts, and in spite of his recent success, Scott is still looking for his first career win.
WARREN PEACE After tying the game against Huascar Brazoban in the 6th inning, the Rockies were threatening to take the lead. Mets manager Carlos Mendoza turned to reliever Austin Warren to shut the door on the rally. Initially, the move seemed dubious, as Warren walked the first batter he faced, Kile Karros. However he was able to strike out Brett Sullivan to end the threat, and the inning. Warren went on to pitch a relatively easy bottom of the 7th (one walk, erased on a double play), to keep the game tied.
Warren's 2026 ERA is now an impressive 1.17.
MISSED IT BY THAT MATCH
A day after leading off the game with a home run, the Mets newest leadoff hitter just missed another one, settling instead for a one-out triple. Sadly for the Mets, he was left stranded at third after Mark Vientos grounded into an inning-ending double play.
