Seat on the Korner: Tyrone Taylor
We select a Star of the Game and virtually invite him to take his Seat on the Korner — just as Ralph Kiner did on WOR-TV Channel 9 during the early days of the New York Mets.
Continuing the tradition of Rheingold Beer sponsoring Kiner’s Korner, this season every seat is proudly presented by The Main Event Restaurant & Sports Bar.
With locations in Plainview and Farmingdale, The Main Event features 80+ HD TVs, fresh daily seafood, and Black Angus certified steaks—so you never have to choose between great food and the big game.

Tyrone Taylor had two hard hit balls with nothing to show for it. The third hard hit ball was all they needed ... a three run two out homer off David Bednar to tie the game set up a Carson Benge winning hit in the 10th to take the Subway Series at Citi Field in what is inarguably the victory of the season so far.
Need to Know
The Mets were 0-91 in their last 91 games when trailing after 8 innings.
The Mets have not dropped a series to the Yankees at Citi Field since 2018.
A.J. Ewing reached base four times, and had his first sacrifice bunt in his professional career in the 10th to set up the winner.
The Mets are now 71-84 all time in the Subway Series, and 18-10 in the last 28 Subway Series games.
The Mets have won five of their last six.
Freddy Peralta pitched five complete innings and two batters into the 6th, giving up three runs on two hits and six walks while striking out four.
Carson Benge came into the game hitting .311 with an OPS of .812 in the month of May. He was 1-for-5 today but the one hit helped set up the game tying rally in the 9th.
Bo Bichette's base hit in the 9th snapped an 0-for-15 stretch.
Taylor's home run was the first three run homer David Bednar had given up since April of 2024.
This was the Mets' 9th extra inning game of the year in 46 games.
Aaron Judge entered the game with a .229 career batting average at Citi Field, but with 9 homers and 20 RBI in 84 plate appearances. Judge was 0-for-4 today.
Turning Point
This one is easy ...
Hits by Carson Benge and Bo Bichette led off the inning, but Juan Soto hit into a force out for the first out, and Mark Vientos struck out in what was probably the worst Met at-bat of the season which made it feel like it wouldn't work out for the Mets. But Taylor saved the day with two outs in the 9th with that dinger off the fair pole screen, and Vientos would get his redemption in the 10th, just as Bichette got redemption for a horrific dropped pop up in the 6th to bring home the 5th Yankee run.
Three Keys
In a Pinch
It seemed like it happened years before the Taylor homer, but Luis Torrens' pinch hit two run double in the bottom of the 6th got the Mets right back in the game after they gave up four runs in the top of the frame on one hit.
And give Carlos Mendoza credit for pulling the trigger on that substitution.
Turn It Out and Shut It Down
In the top of the 10th after Taylor's dinger, Devin Williams had to deal with the ghost runner. After striking out Max Schuemann, that ghost runner stole third, and Williams walked Volpe to set up first and third with Austin Wells at the plate.
That was hard hit, but a great turn by Vientos and Bichette for the 3-6-3 double play
And In The End ...
A.J. Ewing had never laid down a sac bunt in his professional career. Not in the majors, not in the minors. It didn't look like a great idea on the first pitch when he squared late and looked lost. But he got it down the third pitch and it was a beauty.
Then after Torrens was nicked with a pitch, it set up Carson Benge vs Tim Hill with the win on the line:
It doesn't get any more "springboard" than that. Now it's up to the Mets to actually jump off of it.
