Seat on the Korner: Juan Soto
We select a Star of the Game and virtually invite him to take his Seat on the Korner — just as Ralph Kiner did on WOR-TV Channel 9 during the early days of the New York Mets.
Continuing the tradition of Rheingold Beer sponsoring Kiner’s Korner, this season every seat is proudly presented by The Main Event Restaurant & Sports Bar.
With locations in Plainview and Farmingdale, The Main Event features 80+ HD TVs, fresh daily seafood, and Black Angus certified steaks—so you never have to choose between great food and the big game.

Juan Soto's third career grand slam --and the Mets first of the season -- in the 6th inning blew the game wide open. Soto has hit nine home runs in his last 13 games and how has 13 on the season with 29 RBI. On this homestand, Soto was 7 for 16 (.438) with 3 HR and 8 RBI. In 107 career games against Miami, Soto has a career slash line of .303/.438/.544 with an OPS of .982. Soto's 111 hits and 27 doubles against the Marlins are his most against any single opponent.
Need to Know
Carson Benge led off the game with a home run for the first time in his career. The home run was also Benge's first off of a left hander (John King) in his career. Benge is the 4th different Met this season (Francisco Lindor, Bo Bichette, Juan Soto) to lead off the game with a home run. Benge is hitting .324 (12 for 37) vs. LHP and batted .306 (33 for 108) in May.
Marcus Semien was 5 for 10 (.500) with a HR, 2 runs scored and 3 RBI in the series. In 19 career games against Miami, Semien is slashing .343/.425/.586 with an OPS of 1.011.
Luis Torrens is 2 for 4 with 3 RBI with the bases loaded this season. Torrens is 14 for 33 (.444) with 30 RBI with the bases loaded in his career.
Mets P Nolan McLean made his first career appearance against the Marlins. After giving up 16 runs, 13 ER (9 IP) in his last two starts, McLean, despite issuing a career high five walks, gave up 1 run in 5 IP.
The Mets improved to 3-3 against the Marlins and 6-7 against NL East teams. Mets outscored the Marlins 25-9 in the three game sweep. The four straight wins tied the Mets' longest win streak (4/3-4/7) of the season.
Turning Point
The Mets had a 3-0 lead in the top of the fourth when McLean walked Javier Sanoja and Jakob Marsee to put runners on first and second with nobody out. Connor Norby drove a 1-2 pitch to deep left center field but A.J. Ewing continued his stellar outfield play as he ran the ball down to make the catch. Ewing hit the wall but got the ball back in quickly as Sanoja took third. Owen Cassie's bloop double that hit the foul line in left field scored Sanoja and put runners on second and third with one out. McLean got Esteury Ruiz on a ground out to third as the runners held. Xavier Edwards walked to load the bases but McLean got Liam Hicks on a ground out to short to end the threat.
Three Keys
Home Cooking is Tasting A Lot Better
With the win, the Mets have won 9 of their last 12 games at Citi Field and improved to 15-15 at home. The sweep was the Mets' second (5/12-5/14 vs Detroit) of the season and their first against the Marlins at Citifield since 2021. The Mets finished the month of May with a 16-12 mark and moved out of last place in the NL East for only the second time since April 28th.
What a Relief It Is for Peterson
David Peterson pitched the final four innings to earn his first save of the season. The left hander's numbers out of the pen are in stark contrast to his numbers as a starter. While working out of the bullpen, Peterson has posted a 1.88 ERA (5 ER in 24 IP) and has held opponents to a .221 (21 for 95) batting average.
On Deck
The Mets open their final West Coast road trip Monday night with a three game series at T-Mobile park in Seattle. They will head to San Diego next weekend for a three game set at Petco Park against the Padres. The Mets will return home on June 9th for a six game homestand featuring three against the St. Louis Cardinals and their first three games of the season against the high flying and first place Atlanta Braves.
