Minor League Mondays: Jonah Tong, Carson Benge Tabbed To Represent The Mets At The Futures Game

While most New York Mets fans care about how many players got picked to represent the National League in the All Star Game, it is also worth mentioning that another key game will take place in Atlanta next week. The All Star Futures Game will be played on Sunday, showcasing some of the top prospects in baseball at Truist Park. Two Mets' prospects will be participating in the game, outfielder Carson Benge and starting pitcher Jonah Tong, so we will check in on them for this week's edition of Minor League Mondays.

Jonah Tong and Carson Benge are the Mets' representatives at the All Star Futures Game.

We covered both of these players earlier in the season, so we'll offer a statistical update on each player today. Benge has torn the cover off the ball, hitting .302 with 18 doubles, 5 triples, 4 home runs and 37 RBI in 60 games for High-A St. Lucie, which earned him a promotion to AA Binghamton. The Mets have high hopes for Benge, who was David Stearns' first draft pick as President of Baseball Operations, and he is currently ranked third on MLB.com's list of the team's Top 30 prospects.

The bigger development success for the Mets this season has been Tong, who has quickly become the team's top pitching prospect with a dominant 2025 campaign for Binghamton. Tong made headlines earlier this season by throwing a combined no-hitter for Binghamton and has been a strikeout machine, racking up 125 punchouts in just 78.2 innings pitched while going 6-4 with a 1.83 ERA in 15 starts.

Scouts have made frequent comparisons between Tong and former San Francisco Giants' ace Tim Lincecum due to their similar statures and mechanics. Tong is currently ranked as the Mets' No. 2 prospect according to MLB.com and should be promoted to AAA Syracuse before too long, potentially right after his Futures Game appearance.

Benge and Tong are two of four Mets' prospects currently ranked inside the league's Top 100 list on MLB.com, with Tong checking in at No. 59 and Benge at No. 74. The other Mets' prospects inside the Top 100 are infielder Jett Williams (No. 45) and pitcher Nolan McLean (No. 76).
