The New York Mets' big league roster isn't doing so hot right now, but they do have some hope in the form of their strong farm system. The minor leagues have already given the Mets some significant talent infusions this year as Carson Benge and A.J. Ewing have established themselves as regulars. Another young position player looking to join them in the near future is second baseman Mitch Voit, who is the focus of this week's edition of Minor League Mondays.

Voit, 21, was the Mets' first round pick last summer out of the University of Michigan. Although he was announced as a two-way player, Voit has played exclusively offense since coming into the Mets' organization. The Wolverines had Voit dabble with pitching early in his collegiate career but he looked much sharper as a hitter in his final year at Michigan. Those gains didn't quite carry over to his debut season as he hit just .235 with a homer, eight RBI and a .647 OPS in 85 at bats, but he did flash some speed with 20 steals in just 22 games.
After a slow start to the season, Voit has been on a heater of late for Brooklyn. Over the past 15 games Voit has hit .276 with a home run, nine RBI and an .800 OPS in 58 at bats. Voit has continued to run this season, racking up 24 stolen bases in his first 53 games, and has shown increased pop with seven home runs and 26 RBI in 204 at-bats.
Scouts are intrigued by Voit's potential as an above average hitter with good plate discipline. The speed will certainly help Voit's cause and his plus arm will give him the ability to be a strong defender anywhere on the infield, with Brooklyn playing him primarily at shortstop (39 games) or second base (14 games).
There are potential long-term fits for Voit, who is rated as the Mets' sixth-best prospect according to MLB.com, at either position. The fastest route to the majors for him would come at second base, where he could easily supplant Marcus Semien by the 2028 season, but the Mets will likely let him keep playing both middle infield positions to maintain versatility.
If Voit is able to maintain this heater for a bit longer he could end up at AA Binghamton at some point in the second half. The Mets will likely let Voit get some at bats in spring training next year, but he is still unlikely to factor into the big-league equation prior to the end of 2027.
