Seat on the Korner: Brandon Nimmo

We select the star of the game and virtually invite him to a Seat on the Korner, just as Ralph Kiner used to do for his studio postgame show on WOR-channel 9 broadcasts in the early decades of the Mets.

Today's Seat on the Korner belongs to Brandon Nimmo, who went 2-5 with a 2 run HR and a single that lead the Mets to their game 1 victory.

Need to Know

  • Brooks Raley continues his hot streak as he got the Mets out of an 8th inning jam. His ERA is now 2.08 as he continues to be a solid reliever as of late.

  • Brandon Nimmo now has a three game hitting streak after going 2-today with a home run and 2 RBIs.

  • Luis Guillorme left today's game in the bottom of the 6th due to him twisting his ankle. He walked off the field limping.

  • Francsico Alvarez went 0-4 today with 1 strikeout, this makes him 0 for his last 7 at bats.

  • The Mets are now 5 games below .500 and 17.5 games behind in the NL East.

Turning Point

The turning point of the game was in the top of the fourth inning where Daniel Vogelbach hit a 2 run home run. This gave the Mets the lead which they will hold for the rest of the game.

In the half inning after that home run, the game went under a long delay due to rain before being postponed to the next day due to heavy downpours. Nonetheless, the Mets stayed hot as they only allowed one more run when Rob Refsnyder hit a sac fly off Dominic Leone to give the Red Sox their last run of the game.

Three Keys

Senga: Kodai Senga has been a prime asset for the Mets with stellar outings, however the road hasn't been completely smooth. Senga has gotten tremendous support from the Mets' offense, but has been able to keep his cool . Today, Senga only pitched 3.1 innings due to the postponement of the game, giving up 2 earned runs and 3 hits.

A challenge came to Senga in the first part of the game last night after a 2 run double was smacked off the monster. Teammates reminded Senga afterwards that the big leagues are not easy:

However, it is apparent that Senga's impact on the team is huge. After speaking with SNY's Steve Gelbs, Max Scherzer was impressed with Senga, saying that "he has that ability in him." He even laughed at Buck's decisions a little, saying that he laughs for him after Buck pulls him after around 95 pitches. The full interview is linked below:

DJ Stewart: A solid asset for the Mets recently has come out in DJ Stewart, batting .276 this season since being called up from the minors this month.

He came in today after Luis Guillorme left with an apparent calf injury and surprised everyone with a successful sacrifice bunt:

July: It seems like it is a better month for the Mets, as they are now 10-5 through 15 games this month.

The offense seems like it is finally coming together with a more consistent lineup from Buck. However he needs to be careful, as more injuries are coming in with Marte on the 10 day IL and now Guillorme heading to the IL.
