Seat on the Korner: Masyn Winn
We select a Star of the Game and virtually invite him to take his Seat on the Korner — just as Ralph Kiner did on WOR-TV Channel 9 during the early days of the New York Mets.
Continuing the tradition of Rheingold Beer sponsoring Kiner’s Korner, this season every seat is proudly presented by The Main Event Restaurant & Sports Bar.
With locations in Plainview and Farmingdale, The Main Event features 80+ HD TVs, fresh daily seafood, and Black Angus certified steaks—so you never have to choose between great food and the big game.

Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn gets the seat next to Ralph for putting the ball in play to hand the Mets a frustrating loss. With two out and the winning run on third in the bottom of the 11th, Winn blooped a fly ball into short right field.
Mets rightfielder Carson Benge made a valiant effort to try and make the catch but the ball fell in no man's land and J.J. Wetherholt scored the winning run from third.
Need to Know
Juan Soto's home run in the sixth ended a 17-inning scoreless streak. Soto has now reached base safely in all 41 career games against the Cardinals. Soto extended his hitting streak against St. Louis to nine games overall and 12 straight games at Busch Stadium. Soto is hitting .346 (9 for 26). in the first six games.
Freddy Peralta had a second solid outing. Peralta gave up a run on three hits in 5.1 IP with seven strikeouts.
Mark Vientos' double in the fifth inning was the Mets first hit and ended an 0 for 25 skid dating back to Tuesday night's game.
Mets were out of ABS challenges by the sixth inning.
Mets played their third extra inning game within the first six games of the season for the second time (1991) in franchise history. Mets are 1-2 in extra inning games.
Todd Zeile was a last minute replacement for an ailing Keith Hernandez on the broadcast.
Turning Point
In the top of the 11th, the Mets had the bases loaded and one out but failed to score. With the bases full, the Cardinals made a pitching change to bring in Gordon Graceffo to replace the struggling Chris Roycroft. Graceffo got Brett Baty to ground into a force out at home and then the struggling Marcus Semien flied out to end the inning. Semien is now 0 for his last 18.
Three Keys
Not So Average Batting
Marcus Semien .100 (2 for 20).,Bo Bichette .111 (3 for 27).,Francisco Lindor .143 (3 for 21), Francisco Alvarez .231 (3 for 13), Carson Benge .158 (3 for 19)., Brett Baty .217 (5 for 23). Mets were 0 for 11 with RISP, 1 for 29 (.034) in the three game series w/RISP and .162 (11 for 68) w/RISP on the young season. Mets are hitting .189 as a team since opening day and have scored one run in their last 23 innings.
Daydreaming Mets Could Use a Cup of Francisc-Joe
Francisco Lindor forgot how many outs there were in the first inning and failed to try for a double play. Lindor fielded a grounder from Alec Burleson and stepped on second for the force out but did not relay the ball to first to potentially end the inning. No harm, no foul as Peralta struck out Masyn Wynn to end the inning. After reaching on an error in the sixth, Lindor was immediately picked off first base by Matthew Liberatore.
Francisco Alvarez was caught napping in the fifth inning on a pitch in the dirt. With runners on first and third and one out, Alvarez blocked Peralta's pitch, but only checked the runner at third and failed to check the runner at first. Nathan Church, who was on first, was able to get to second to eliminate a potential force play at second.
Oh What A Relief It Is and Has Been
Despite the loss, the Mets bullpen continues to do a stellar job. Winn's winning hit was one of two given up by the pen in 5.1 innings pitched. Huascar Brazoban (2/3 of an inning, 1H, 1 K), Brooks Raley (1 IP, 2 Ks), Luke Weaver (1 IP, 1 K), Devin Williams (1 IP, 1 K), and Tobias Myers (1.2 IP, 1H, 1 unearned run). Mets relievers have combined to post a 1.78 ERA (5 ER in 25.1 IP).
