Seat on the Korner: Freddy Peralta

We select the star of the game and virtually invite him to a Seat on the Korner, just as Ralph Kiner used to do for his studio postgame show on WOR-channel 9 broadcasts in the early decades of the Mets.

Tonight's Seat on the Korner belongs to Freddy Peralta, who delivered an impressive performance on the mound. Peralta pitched six strong innings, limiting the Mets' offense to just one hit—a second-inning home run by Starling Marte. Throughout the game, he showcased excellent control, issuing only one walk while striking out eight batters.

Turning Point

Tonight's turning point occurred in the bottom of the seventh inning when the Brewers replaced starting pitcher Freddy Peralta with reliever Trevor Megill. Following a stellar six innings from Peralta, Francisco Lindor managed to draw a walk off Megill. However, Megill swiftly regained control, inducing Pete Alonso and Jeff McNeil to both foul out to third baseman Joey Ortiz. Starling Marte then stepped up to bat, representing the tying run. There was a moment of suspense as it seemed Marte might hit his second home run of the game, but Brewers right fielder Jackson Chourio made an impressive catch, preventing the ball from leaving the yard.

Three Keys

FINE FREDDY

Freddy Peralta now boasts an impressive record of 3-0 with a 2.59 ERA across three starts against New York. His first two outings took place at American Family Field, where he demonstrated exceptional performance, He now has pitched a total of 17.1 innings against the Mets, allowing only 8 hits, 5 runs (all earned), with 5 walks and an impressive 20 strikeouts, while conceding 2 home runs. Notably, he secured an 8-4 victory on 9/26/21, pitching 5.1 innings with 5 hits, 4 runs (all earned), 1 walk, 5 strikeouts, 1 home run, and 1 hit by pitch. He followed this with a dominant performance in a 10-0 victory on 4/3/23, pitching 6 innings, allowing just 2 hits, with 3 walks and 7 strikeouts.

RHYS-KY BUSINESS

Despite donning a new uniform, Rhys Hoskins continues to be a pest and a challenge for the Mets. The former Philly found himself in the middle of controversy yet again during the eighth inning when his late slide at second base, following a force out on a Willy Adames ground ball to Brett Baty, collided with Jeff McNeil. This incident prompted both benches and bullpens to clear, though order was swiftly restored. While the Mets contested the play, no interference was called as McNeil had no longer possessed the ball when he was taken out and while it was a very late slide Hoskins did not over slide the base.

SOMETHING BREWING

The Milwaukee Brewers have resumed their winning ways from last season, securing victory in 7 of their last 8 games against the Mets. Christian Yelich continues to rake against Mets pitching, Today was his 105th lifetime game against them. With a 3-for-4 performance today, he has bolstered his lifetime average to .283 against the Mets, tallying 13 home runs and 56 RBIs.
