Ohtani Shines Once Again and Cookie Crumbles as Mets Lose Second Game to Angels.

Mets 5 Angels 3 (Citi Field, Flushing NY)

Mets record: 59-71

Mets streak: Lost 4

WP - Aaron Loup (2-2)

LP - Carlos Carrasco (3-8)

S: Carlos Estevez (28)

Seat on the Korner: Brandon Drury

We select the star of the game and virtually invite him to a Seat on the Korner, just as Ralph Kiner used to do for his studio postgame show on WOR-channel 9 broadcasts in the early decades of the Mets.

Since we try to give the seat on the Korner to someone new every night, it will go to Brandon Drury tonight, who went 2-5 with 2 hits and 2 RBIs, including a single and a double that both times scored Shohei Ohtani.

Need to Know

  • Pete Alonso is tied for second in the majors and in the National League with 95 RBIs.

  • This is the third game in a row where Carlos Carrasco did not pitch over 4 innings, going only 1.2 tonight with 5 runs and 7 hits given up during that time.

  • Angels' Chase Silseth left in the bottom of the 4th inning when a ball thrown to try and catch the Mets' double steal hit him in the back of the head.

  • Benches and bullpens both cleared after Pete Alonso was hit in the head by a pitch, Pete cleared concussion protocols and should be good to resume playing.

Turning Point

It is safe to say that the turning point in tonight's game was the first home run of the game where Mickey Moniak homered in the top of the second to giver Los Angeles a 2 run lead.

From there, the Mets were not able to give enough support for Carlos Carrasco's poor outing as the Mets' offense looked lackluster.

Three Keys

Crumbl Cookie: This season has been extremely tough for Carlos Carrasco, who is 3-8 on the season with a 6.80 ERA. Tonight just continued the struggle as he only pitched 1.2 innings and gave up 5 runs in that time, the only runs allowed in the game.

Management needs to think about a final decision with Carrasco. This isn't the first season that we have seen numbers like this from Cookie. I don't think that he should pitch anymore, but it is a tough situation since that he is towards the end of his contract, they may want him to get his last reps in before he becomes an unrestricted free agent.

Shohei Ohtani: The phones were out at Citi Field tonight when Shohei Ohtani went up to bat tonight as everyone is eager to see the superstar.

His amazing play continued tonight as he went 2-3 tonight with an RBI and 2 runs. He certainly made his presence known at Citi field these past 2 nights, oh yeah, and he left a mark by breaking a LED light with a foul ball.

The Farm System: The farm system is really looking up as the Binghamton Rumble Ponies won 9-4 tonight with the future stars shining bright. Luisangel Acuna went 2-4 with an RBI while players like JT Schwartz went 3-5 with 3 RBIs.

Meanwhile in Syracuse, the Mets just snuck out the victory tonight against Buffalo, where Ronnie Mauricio went 3-5 with a double that led to a Brett Baty home run.

Is Baty ready for the majors? We don't know, as Mickey Callaway said on our show last week, the majors is a completely different ballgame from the minors. However, Baty needed a break from the majors in order to re gain his confidence in his play. When will that time come? We will see..
