While fellow rookie outfielder Carson Benge delivered the biggest swing of the day with his clutch left-on-left RBI double that gave the Mets the go-ahead run, Ewing was the player who consistently set the table and impacted the game in every facet.

For his efforts, Ewing earns the honor of getting the Seat on the Korner— and with that comes the most prestigious prize in baseball storytelling: the virtual seat next to Ralph for the rare in-between games edition of Kiner’s Korner during today’s doubleheader.

Ewing finished the game 1-for-2 with an RBI, a walk, two stolen bases, one RBI on the day, and a run scored, helping fuel a Mets offense that needed every contribution. His ability to reach base, create pressure, and impact the scoreboard continues to separate him from many young players adjusting to Major League pitching.

The rookie outfielder has been on an incredible run. Over his last three games, Ewing is hitting .500 (5-for-10) with a double, two RBI, five runs scored, three walks, and three stolen bases. Against the Braves in this series, he is 4-for-7 — a remarkable .571 batting average.

But perhaps the most impressive statistic is the one that speaks to his consistency.

Ewing has reached base safely in 52 of his first 68 career Major League games, showing a maturity and approach at the plate well beyond his experience level.

The Mets’ young outfield duo of Ewing and Benge is quickly becoming one of the most exciting parts of the season. Benge may have delivered the defining hit, but Ewing was the spark, the catalyst, and the constant presence.

In four of his five starts against Atlanta, he has completed at least 6.0 innings and allowed three or fewer earned runs in each of his appearances against Atlanta and has yet to record a win.

Turning Point

Today's turning point came in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Braves had erased the Mets’ early 2-0 advantage one inning earlier when Matt Olson’s home run pulled Atlanta even, setting the stage for a critical seventh inning. With the game tied at 2-2, the Mets needed a response — and rookie Carson Benge delivered. Facing a left-handed pitcher in a pressure moment, Benge came through with a clutch left-on-left RBI double, driving home A.J. Ewing and giving the Mets a 3-2 lead. The go-ahead hit not only restored the Mets’ advantage, but it proved to be the decisive run as the bullpen locked down Atlanta the rest of the way.

As odd as it sounds, Drake Baldwin briefly found himself on pace to match one of the strangest records in Mets history—one that dates back 18,636 days to July 21, 1975. That afternoon at Shea Stadium, Joe Torre became the first National League player ever to ground into four double plays in a single game, a dubious distinction that still stands out in the record book. Baldwin's afternoon started on a similar path. After Ronald Acuña Jr. drew a leadoff walk in the first inning, Baldwin bounced into a double play. In the third, with runners on first and second and one out, he ended another Braves threat by hitting into his second twin killing of the game. Fortunately for Atlanta, that's where the similarities ended. Baldwin bounced back in the sixth with a leadoff double and came around to score on Matt Olson's game-tying two-run homer. But after two double plays in his first two opportunities, he was halfway toward tying one of the most unusual—and unwanted—records ever set against the Mets.

Mets' Pen Is Bullish

Quietly, the Mets' bullpen has become one of the club's biggest strengths. After Huascar Brazobán and Daniel Duarte combined for 2.2 scoreless innings on Tuesday, the relief corps picked up right where it left off Wednesday. Brazobán, Luke Weaver, and Devin Williams each delivered a scoreless inning, extending the bullpen's streak to 14.2 consecutive innings without allowing a run.

Jorge Polanco becoming the Mets Achilles HEAL

For Jorge Polanco, the search for answers continued, but the results remained the same. The veteran infielder went 0-for-3 with three strikeouts, extending a brutal stretch at the plate and adding another frustrating chapter to his homestand.

Polanco is now 0-for-12 on the homestand with a walk and seven strikeouts, while his current slump has reached 0-for-his-last-16. Each at-bat has become a battle as he continues to look for the timing and confidence that have defined some of the better moments of his career. The Citi Field crowd let Jorge know how they felt about his performances.
