In what has been a lost season, Tyrone Taylor has provided some moments to give Mets fans a reason to cheer. The Mets were trailing 3-1 with two on and one out in the bottom of the sixth when Taylor earned the seat next to Ralph when he greeted Dodgers right hand reliever Evan Phillips with a three run blast to left field. It was Taylor's fifth home run in 33 at bats since coming off the IL on June 28th.

• Marcus Semien snapped an 0 for 9 skid with his three run home run in the seventh, his 11th of the season. Semien's last hit before today was a solo home run against the Brewers last Wednesday.

• Dodgers reliever Evan Phillips does not enjoy pitching on "Sunday in New York." Phillips, who took the loss, gave up the go ahead, three run home run to Tyrone Taylor in the Mets' 8-3 win. Last Sunday, Phillips took the loss when he gave up the go ahead home run to the Yankees' Jazz Chisholm Jr. in a 2-1 loss at Yankee Stadium.

Turning Point

The Mets had not had a hit since the first inning but a pair of walks put two runners on in the bottom of the sixth with one out. Taylor clubbed a 1-1 pitch from Phillips, who had entered the game in relief of left hander Jack Dreyer, to give the Mets their first lead of the game. The ball landed in the same general area where Taylor provided one of the few memorable moments of the season on May 17th when he hit a game tying home run with two out in the bottom of the ninth against Yankees closer David Bednar in a game the Mets won 7-6 in ten innings. For the native of Torrance, California, it was the first home run of his career against the Dodgers or the Angels.

Three Keys

Cool Hand Luke

Luke Weaver escaped a bases loaded, two out jam that he created with an athletic play to nab Teoscar Hernandez at first base and keep the Dodgers off the board. It was the 27th time in his last 28 appearances where Weaver has not allowed an earned run dating back to May 1st. With two out and one on, Tommy Edman singled and Kyle Tucker was hit by a pitch to fill the bases. With the count 2-2, Hernandez hit a slow bouncer to the third base side of the mound. Weaver hustled over, grabbed the ball and spun around to make an off balance throw to first baseman Brett Baty that was on the money to end the threat.

Jorge Po-Blank-o

Jorge Polanco continues to be a non factor in what has turned into a disastrous season. Polanco went 0 for 3 and is now mired in an 0 for 13 skid. Since coming off the IL on July 7th, Polanco is hitting .105 (4 for 38) with 11 strikeouts. For the season, Polanco is batting .149 (14 for 94).

Lastings Kill-edge

Freddy Peralta has been plagued all season by an inability to give the Mets length in his outings and this latest one was no different. Peralta threw 93 pitches in four innings of work. It was the sixth time in 22 starts and four of the last five, that Peralta failed to go five innings. Peralta threw 25 pitches in a scoreless first inning thanks in part to an 11-pitch at bat where Freddy Freeman fouled off five two strike pitches and eventually grounded out. Peralta threw 15 pitches in the second, 30 in the third and 23 in the fourth. Peralta has gone six innings or more only six times this season.
