This Week on The Korner: Koufax, Seaver, Gibson — and the Captain

What a week to be a Mets fan at the Korner. Ralph welcomed three Hall of Fame ghosts back to the postgame show, a brand-new Saturday series opened the SPORTSTALKNY vault, the Captain himself came to our book club, and we cut the ribbon on our own arcade. If you missed any of it, here's your catch-up — and a first look at the strangest debate series we've ever run.
This is the web edition of our Sunday email. Know a Mets fan who'd love it? Share this post with them — that's how the Korner grows. New here? Everything below is free at kinerskorner.com, and the conversation lives in our Talkin' Mets on the Korner groups.
Three legends sat down with Ralph

Our imagined postgame interview series launched with a tripleheader any fan would dream about: No. 1 — Koufax Blanks the Mets, 5-0, the night Sandy was untouchable at Shea in 1965. Then No. 2 — Seaver Strikes Out Nineteen — Tom Terrific's masterpiece from April 22, 1970. And on Friday, No. 3 — Gibson Outduels Seaver in Eleven — the first-ever meeting of two future Hall of Famers, 1968. Each comes with the full story and an audio companion, so you can listen to Ralph's interviews the way they might have sounded. Next up: Mookie (Monday), Mr. Cub (Wednesday), and Piazza's post-9/11 home run (Friday).
Ron Swoboda, in his own voice

Our new Saturday series digs into the SPORTSTALKNY interview vault. No. 1: Ron Swoboda — Casey, Gil, and the Catch — Casey Stengel stories, Gil Hodges' honesty, the moon landing in Montreal, and the most famous catch in Mets history, from my January 2019 conversation with Rocky himself. Next Saturday: Cleon Jones.
The Captain comes to the Korner

Our Long Island SABR Chapter book club welcomed David Wright and Anthony DiComo to talk about *The Captain* — how Wright landed in New York almost by accident, the pennant race that never stopped stinging, Mike Piazza in the mentor's chair, and the night the Captain came home. The Captain Comes to the Korner has the full story and the complete 44-minute session video.
The Korner Arcade is open

Six days a week, a new Mets game in our Talkin' Mets on the Korner community: Korner Grid on Mondays, Who's the Met? Tuesdays, Team Link Wednesdays, Mets Jeopardy Thursdays, Wheel of Fortune Fridays and Pictionary Saturdays — each with its own leaderboard. Week 1 starts Monday. The doors are open, there's no cover charge, and bragging rights are very much on the table.

METS TRANSACTIONS
The offseason roster trim has begun. Utilityman Vidal Bruján elected free agency on Thursday (Oct. 15), and outfielder MJ Melendez has elected free agency as well — both end their Mets tenures after spending most of 2026 at Triple-A Syracuse, where Melendez hit 22 home runs. And the rumor mill is already turning: owner Steve Cohen was in the house in St. Petersburg on Tuesday to watch former Met Freddy Peralta — a free agent this winter — throw six scoreless innings for Tampa Bay in the ALCS. File that away for the Hot Stove group.
TOP NEWS
The Brewers are going to the World Series. Milwaukee swept the two-time defending champion Dodgers in the NLCS, coming back from 4–0 down to win the clincher 6–4 at Dodger Stadium — their first Fall Classic since 1982, after a 103-win season. Jake Bauers took NLCS MVP honors.
The ALCS is all even. Tampa Bay beat Cleveland 7–3 on Saturday to tie the series 2–2; Game 5 is today at 5 PM ET. Ex-Met watch: it was Peralta who shut the Guardians out in Game 2.
World Series Game 1 is Friday, October 23 in Milwaukee, with a possible Game 7 on Halloween night.
