Seat On The Korner: Mason Miller
We select the star of the game and virtually invite him to a Seat on the Korner, just as Ralph Kiner used to do for his studio postgame show on WOR-channel 9 broadcasts in the early decades of the Mets.
The Seat on the Korner today goes to Mason Miller, who stepped up in a high-pressure situation to preserve a one-run lead for the A's. Entering the game in the eighth inning, Miller was lights-out, striking out Harrison Bader before inducing a flyout from Francisco Lindor and then fanning Mark Vientos to end the frame. His dominance continued into the ninth as he worked around a hit-by-pitch and a walk, calmly inducing a pop-out from Pete Alonso and retiring Francisco Alvarez on a lineout to secure his 18th save of the season. Miller now boasts a sub-2 ERA, further solidifying his status as a reliable closer.

The New York Mets today announced that the club will open its 2025 Spring Training Grapefruit League schedule on Saturday, February 22 at Clover Park in Port St. Lucie vs. the Houston Astros.
In the top of the fourth inning, the Mets' 5-0 lead quickly evaporated as the Athletics made a surge. A single and a walk loaded the bases, setting the stage for JJ Bleday, who crushed a grand slam to right field, bringing the A's within one run at 5-4. It appeared that Oakland had tied the game when Shea Langeliers raced home on Tyler Nevin's double, but a heads-up play by Mets' catcher Luis Torrens changed the tide. Initially called safe, Langeliers was ruled out at the plate after missing home and being tagged by Torrens. The Mets challenged the play, and after a review, the call was overturned, ending the inning and preserving the Mets' slim lead.
Turning Point
In the top of the sixth inning, with the Mets clinging to a 6-5 lead, reliever Reed Garrett was called upon to keep the Athletics at bay. However, Oakland quickly mounted pressure as JJ Bleday singled, followed by a double from Shea Langeliers that put runners on second and third. Tyler Nevin then grounded out, allowing Bleday to score, tying the game at 6-6, with Langeliers advancing to third. Garrett issued a walk to Zack Gelof, and Seth Brown followed with a sharp single to right, driving in Langeliers and giving the A's a 7-6 lead. Despite the mound visit, Garrett recovered to get Abraham Toro to fly out and struck out Max Schuemann swinging to end the inning, but the damage was done as the A's had taken the lead.
Three Keys:
Minimum (ex)Spence
A's starter Mitch Spence struggled mightily in his outing, laboring through 89 pitches in just 2 and 2/3 innings. His final stat line reflected the rough afternoon on the mound: 2.2 innings pitched, allowing 4 hits, 5 earned runs, and 3 walks while recording only 1 strikeout. He also gave up a home run and uncorked a wild pitch that led to the Mets' first run. As a result of this performance, his ERA rose from 4.33 to 4.64.
Citi Langeliers and Oh Bla De Oh Bleday
Shea Langeliers may want to consider changing his name to "Citi" after a dominant series at Citi Field. Langeliers was unstoppable at the plate, going 7-for-11 over the series, driving in 4 runs, collecting 13 total bases, and crossing home plate 3 times. His ability to come through in crucial moments made him a constant threat in the lineup. Not to be outdone, JJ Bleday also shined during the series, going 5-for-11 and delivering a pivotal grand slam in the final game, further showcasing Oakland's offensive firepower.
Vientos gets a passing Mark, while Oakland Gets all A's
With Brandon Nimmo scratched from the lineup due to a stomach bug, Mets manager Carlos Mendoza slotted Mark Vientos into the number two spot. Vientos made the most of the opportunity, going 2-for-5 with two home runs and three RBIs, bringing his season total to 19 homers. Jose Iglesias was the only other Met to record a multi-hit game, while the Athletics had four players with multiple hits: JJ Bleday, Shea Langeliers, Tyler Nevin, and Seth Brown, all contributing to Oakland's offensive effort.
