Seat on the Korner: Ronny Mauricio
We select a Star of the Game and virtually invite him to take his Seat on the Korner — just as Ralph Kiner did on WOR-TV Channel 9 during the early days of the New York Mets.
Continuing the tradition of Rheingold Beer sponsoring Kiner’s Korner, this season every seat is proudly presented by The Main Event Restaurant & Sports Bar.
With locations in Plainview and Farmingdale, The Main Event features 80+ HD TVs, fresh daily seafood, and Black Angus certified steaks—so you never have to choose between great food and the big game.

Ronny Mauricio's 111.3 mph missile in the 7th inning off Jose Fermin was the difference as the Mets start off May with a big comeback win over the Angels in Anaheim. That thing had a 20-degree launch angle and traveled 421 feet. As an old timey baseball person would say: "They served drinks on that airplane."
Need to Know
Juan Soto played the outfield for the first time since coming off the IL. His walk in the 4th inning kept his streak of reaching base for the season perfect at 17.
Christian Scott was much better tonight in his second start, lasting five innings while giving up two earned runs on three hits and 8 strikeouts and, most importantly, zero walks.
Mauricia's home run in the 7th broke an 0-for-12 streak while giving the Mets lead in the 7th.
Bo Bichette had two hits, raising his average to .238 on the season.
The Angels have now lost 11 out of 12 games.
Austin Slater's single in the 8th was his first hit as a Met.
Turning Point
With the Mets down 3-0 in the top of the 6th, this happened:
Up until that point, Walbert Urena had stymied the Mets, giving up one hit in his first five innings of work. But when Bichette hit one off the side of his knee, the Angels decided to play it safe and take out their starting pitcher, handing the game over to a bullpen that had an ERA of over 6 during their recent road trip. It was the right move to protect Walbert's health, of course, But the Mets ... incredibly and finally ... took advantage of a struggling bullpen to take home a victory as they scored 3 in the 6th after Urena's departure to tie the game.
Three Keys
Redemption: Christian's Version
It was a tough first start for Christian Scott this season, and a tough start to his second start, giving up a homer to Jorge Soler who hit this one 107.3 mph
But the rest of Scott's night, save for an unearned run in the third, was extremely encouraging as he threw 54 strikes out of 74 pitches.
Redemption: Marcus' Version
It was a tough ... well, everything for Marcus Semien this season. Like Scott, Semien had a tough start to this game as he flew out to right field with the bases loaded and two outs to end the 4th inning.
At that moment, it looked like it would be the Mets' best and only real chance of the night, especially the way they've been going. But Semien got another chance after Urena left the game in the 6th, and with two outs and runners on second and third with the score 3-1, Marcus delivered ...
This brought the Mets all the way back and set up Mauricio's heroics.
Redemption: Luke and Devin's Version
The last time we saw Luke Weaver, he was giving up a go-ahead homer to C.J. Abrams which provided the margin of defeat for the Mets. Weaver, like Scott and Semien, made the most of his next chance:
And then there's Devin Williams, whose situation was a little bit different as he actually had two scoreless outings since he almost set the 9th inning against the Twins ablaze after the Huascar Brazoban fiasco. But this was his first save situation since then, and it would have behooved Williams to nail down this save after the Mets comeback.
Behoove away, Devin:
When Williams struck out Trout (who had 6 HR's in his previous 11 games against the Mets), it was a signal that we could relax a little bit. After Williams retired the next two, it was time to relax a lot.
But give the entire bullpen credit, along with Scott. They all threw strikes, and quality strikes. In addition to Scott's 54 strikes out of 74 pitches, Huascar Brazoban threw 8 strikes out of 11 pitches. Brooks Raley: 6 strikes out of 8 pitches. Weaver: 12 strikes out fo 14 pitches, and 9 out of 14 for Williams. The Mets staff didn't give up a hit since the first inning, and they retired 21 straight Angels, giving them the ignominy of out-Metting the Mets on this night.
