Mets record: 21-26
Mets streak: Won 3
WP-Huascar Brazoban (3-1)
LP-Paxton Schultz (0-1)
Seat on the Korner: Huascar Brazoban
We select a Star of the Game and virtually invite him to take his Seat on the Korner — just as Ralph Kiner did on WOR-TV Channel 9 during the early days of the New York Mets.
Continuing the tradition of Rheingold Beer sponsoring Kiner’s Korner, this season every seat is proudly presented by The Main Event Restaurant & Sports Bar.
With locations in Plainview and Farmingdale, The Main Event features 80+ HD TVs, fresh daily seafood, and Black Angus certified steaks—so you never have to choose between great food and the big game.

The Mets had already used four relievers when they went to Huascar Brazoban to pitch the tenth with the score tied at five. Brazoban tossed two gutsy extra innings to give the Mets a chance to get the win with a record setting extra inning.
Jorbit Vivas was the runner at second to begin the tenth and he moved to third on Drew Millas sacrifice bunt. Brazoban got Nasim Nunez to hit a grounder to first and Mark Vientos threw Vivas out at the plate. Brazoban then struck out C.J. Abrams to send the game to the 11th.
The Mets plated a run in the 11th to take a 6-5 lead and Brazoban came out for his second inning of work. After the Nats tied the game, they had the winning run on third with two out but Brazoban got the game to the 12th by getting Drew Millas on a ground out to short. The run was unearned but Brazoban earned the seat next to Ralph.
Need to Know

Brett Baty extended his hitting streak to eight straight games when he homered to dead center field (451 feet) leading off the fourth inning. It was the 36th home run of Baty's career and second off of Jake Irvin. Baty hit the first 35 HRS of his career off of 35 different pitchers.
Mets have won six of seven to pull within five games of .500 for the first time since they were 7-12 on April 15th. The Mets have come from behind in all six of those wins.
Mets are 11-5 in May and have won four of their last five series. Mets are in a stretch where they are playing 10 of 13 games against NL East opponents.
Bo Bichette's home run in the seventh ended a drought of 71 at bats without an extra base hit.
Mets played their Major League leading tenth extra inning game. Mets are 6-4 in extra inning games.
For the first time in 12 appearances, Brooks Raley gave up an earned run. Raley had not given up an earned run since April 18th against the Cubs.

After making 5 starts for Double-A Binghamton (0-2, 3.60 ERA, 27 Ks and 9 BB in 25 IP), the 24-year old made two starts for Triple-A Syracuse ( 1-1, 2.25 ERA, 13 Ks in 12 IP).
Curtis Mead is 6 for 11 (.545) in his career (4 games) against the Mets with two doubles and four runs batted in.
Turning Point
The Mets already had a run in and had the bases loaded with one out in the top 12th when Vidal Brujan made a strange decision that somehow worked out. Brujan bunted a ball up in the air that landed between the mound and home plate. Nationals pitcher Paxton Schultz made a diving attempt to make the catch but to no avail. Carson Benge broke from third and scored the second run of the inning to give the Mets an 8-6 lead. If Schultz had caught the ball, the Nats would've had an easy double play to end the inning or if the ball was fielded clean, they may have had a force play at the plate but with the way things are going lately, it all worked out. The floodgates opened after that as the Mets scored a franchise record ten runs in the inning.
Three Keys
Pour It On
The Mets sent 13 hitters to the plate in the top of the 12th and became the first Natonal League team to score ten or more runs in an extra inning since 1919. Carson Benge, who is rapidly developing a reputation for coming up big in big spots, had two hits and three runs batted in during the record inning. Bo Bichette had two hits and two runs batted in. Brett Baty had two runs batted in during the inning and three for the game. Vidal Brujan, Marcus Semien and A.J. Ewing also drove in runs during the jaw dropping output.
Top of The Order To 'Ya
The Mets' first three hitters combined to go 8 for 17 with six runs scored, a home run and 8 runs batted in. Leadoff batter Carson Benge was 3 for 6 with three runs scored and three runs batted in. Bo Bichette was 3 for 6 with two runs scored, a home run and three runs batted in and Juan Soto was 2 for 5 with two runs batted in.
Error of Their Ways
Nationals have the worst defense in the league and made four more errors. Nats mistakes contributed to three Mets runs. With two out in the second, Tyrone Taylor dropped a single into the right field corner. Nats RF James Wood made two errors on the play after he booted the ball and then made a bad throw to allow Taylor to get to third. Taylor scored on Luis Torrens RBI double.
With runners on first and second and no one out in the fifth, Bo Bichette hit a deep fly ball to right field. Luis Torrens tagged up from second and when James Wood missed the cut off man, Carson Benge was able to take second. Juan Soto cashed in the mistake with a two run single to give the Mets a 4-3 lead.
