Seat on the Korner: J.T. Ginn
We select a Star of the Game and virtually invite him to take his Seat on the Korner — just as Ralph Kiner did on WOR-TV Channel 9 during the early days of the New York Mets.
Continuing the tradition of Rheingold Beer sponsoring Kiner’s Korner, this season every seat is proudly presented by The Main Event Restaurant & Sports Bar.
With locations in Plainview and Farmingdale, The Main Event features 80+ HD TVs, fresh daily seafood, and Black Angus certified steaks—so you never have to choose between great food and the big game.

On a night when the Mets honored two former players, Jeff McNeil and Luis Severino, with pregame videos, it was a third former member of the franchise who took the spotlight, and the Seat on the Korner. The Mets traded JT Ginn to the Athletics as part of the deal that netted them Chris Bassitt. This year, Ginn started in the bullpen and is now auditioning to be a member of the A's rotation. If tonight is any indication, he's got the part. Ginn tossed four scoreless innings giving up just one hit and one walk while striking out four. Since this was his first start after previously working out of the pen this season, he was on a limited workload, and he made the most of it.
Need to Know
Jeff McNeil made his return to Citi Field and was greeted with a tribute video and a standing ovation. He showed his appreciation by going 2-4 with double and a single, and a 9th-inning insurance RBI. He's now batting .286 on the season with 2 doubles, 3 RBIs and 3 runs scored.
Mets starting pitcher, Clay Holmes, was one of the few bright spots for the team tonight. He pitched 5.1 innings, giving up 5 hits, 3 walks, 3 strikeouts, and one run. He was, however, removed from the game in the 6th due to left hamstring tightness. Holmes said after the game that he expects to make his next start.
The Mets lone hit against Ginn was a 4th inning bunt single by first baseman Jared Young.
Six different Mets got hits tonight, all singles.
This was the first interleague game for the Mets this season. They are now 302-301 since Interleague Play began in 1997.
Turning Point
Down 1-0 in the bottom of the 6th, the Mets mounted their first, and only, true rally of the game...and then short circuited it. Francisco Lindor led off the inning with a single, then moved to third on a Bo Bichette single. Jared Young then followed with a grounder to Athletics first baseman Nick Kurtz who had come in to try to prevent a run from scoring. In an effort to keep the Mets out of the double play, Lindor strayed far enough off third to draw Kurtz's attention. Unfortunately for the Mets, Lindor went a bit to far, and underestimated Kurtz's throwing arm, as the Mets shortstop was thrown out trying to return to the base. Luis Robert Jr followed this up by grounding into a 6-4-3 double play, and just like that the Mets defense was back on the field with the score remaining 1-0.
Three Keys
Going Streaking
With tonight's shutout, the Athletics pitchers extended their scoreless streak to 26 innings. The streak began in the second inning of Wednesday's game against the Yankees in the Bronx.
The Mets extended a scoreless streak of their own. The team has now gone 17 straight innings without scoring a run.
Mets pitchers, however, have a better streak going. The team has not allowed a home run since Rafael Devers' 6th-inning shot in the first game of the series in San Francisco. In fact, by not allowing a home run in the series against the Diamondbacks, it marked the first time the Mets had done that in a series of 2 games or more since the home opening series in 2025 (against Toronto). The Mets have now gone 66 straight innings without giving up a home run.
Too Much for Tobias
Mets long reliever Tobias Myers came into the game to relieve the injured Holmes with one out and one on in the 6th inning. Myers retired both batters he faced in the 6th, and then followed that up with a 1-2-3 7th and a 1-2-3 8th. In the 9th, however, Myers gave up consecutive hits to the first the Athletics, yielding an insurance run in the process. Then, after getting a Carlos Cortes groundout, Athletics centerfielder put the game even further away with a 1-out 2-run single. Richard Lovelady relieved Myers and got Lawrence Butler to ground into an inning-ending double play.
Love for Luis
Jeff McNeil was not the only former Mets player to get some love from Citi Field tonight. Luis Severino may have only pitched one season with the Mets (2024) but it was enough to earn him his own welcome back video.
In three starts this year, Severino is 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA. Since joining the Athletics last season, he is 8-12 with a 4.60 ERA. Sevy is not scheduled to pitch against the Mets this weekend.
