The red-hot Francisco Lindor continued his hot streak in the first at-bat with a 102 mph line drive homer over the short porch in right field. Usually, the Yanks get the benefit of 360 ft homers. Today, the Mets took full advantage, especially Lindor.

Lindor has four leadoff homers in the last eight games.

Later, in the top of the 8th inning, Lindor came up with the bases loaded while the Mets held a comfortable 7-2 lead. With two outs, on a 2-0 pitch, Lindor hit another 365-foot homer over the wall in right field. The grand slam iced the game for the Mets and gives them a chance to take this series in the Bronx tomorrow.

Lindor would finish the game 3 for 5 with two home runs and 5 RBIs.

Turning Point

The turning point in Saturday's drubbing of the Yankees was actually when Andy Green decided to turn around and walk back to the dugout after a brief check on Zac Thornton.

It was the bottom of the 7th inning and the Mets were up 6-2, but runners had reached first and second base with only one out, so Green wanted a word with his rookie lefty.

After returning to the dugout, Thornton proceeded to get Anthony Volpe to ground into a 5-4-3 double play to end the inning. It was an emotional moment for the rookie pitcher, who had talked his way into pitching to another batter or two. He only needed one, and then the Mets broke the game open in the top half of the 8th inning.

Three Keys

Benge's All Around Game

"Superman!" is what Gary Cohen exclaimed in the bottom of the 8th inning, when Carson Benge went fully airborne horizontally to catch a ball scorched into the gap by Aaron Judge.

Benge wasn't too shabby at the plate. He went 2-for-5 with 2 RBIs, including a towering moonshot to right field.

The Unlikely Rookie Pitching Star

Zac Thornton pitched a monster game today, getting big outs when he needed them.

The stat line was great, considering how many people he walked. Thornton pitched seven innings, allowing only five hits, but he walked four batters too.

The Long Ball

The Mets hit six home runs in the game against the Yankees. The homers came at key times in the ballgame. The most clutch of all was Lindor's grand slam in the 8th inning.

Lindor hit two homers, Luis Torrens hit one off Cole, Benge had a sky-high shot, Soto hit a 400-footer, and Jared Young put the cherry on top with a home run in the 9th inning.

The Mets have hit 15 home runs since September 6th.
