Minor League Mondays: How Did Jonah Tong, Carson Benge Fare In The Futures Game?

The All-Star Break is here and for most of the New York Mets, it is a chance to rest and regroup ahead of the second half of the season. While four members of the big club (Francisco Lindor, Pete Alonso, Edwin Diaz and David Peterson) are in Atlanta for the All Star Game festivities, they weren't the only members of the Mets' organization to partake. Prospects Jonah Tong and Carson Benge suited up for the National League Squad in Saturday's Futures Game, and this week's edition of Minor League Mondays will take a look at how they did in baseball's showcase of its future stars.

Mets' pitching prospect Jonah Tong.
Jonah Tong made a strong impression in the Futures Game.

Tong made the biggest mark for the NL side, coming in to start the second inning, and made quick work of his three hitters. That perfect second inning saw Tong throw just 19 pitches with 11 strikes as he retired the side in order. Tong's fastball hit 97 miles per hour during the frame and he recorded a strikeout of Seattle's Harry Ford with a nasty curveball to serve as his highlight of the day.

Benge only made one plate appearance in the game, flying out in his only at bat, but it doesn't change the fact that he made a big impression on scouts in attendance for the workouts prior to the contest. AA Binghamton has become a hot-bed for the Mets' top prospects, although the fact that both Benge and Tong have dominated that level means each could see a promotion to AAA Syracuse at some point in the second half.
