Seat on the Korner: Brandon Nimmo
We select the star of the game and virtually invite him to a Seat on the Korner, just as Ralph Kiner used to do for his studio postgame show on WOR-channel 9 broadcasts in the early decades of the Mets.
Tonight's Seat on the Korner belongs to Brandon Nimmo.Nimmo's exceptional performance saw him single-handedly leveling the score twice: first with a two-run homer in the fifth inning, and then with a solo shot in the seventh. His offensive prowess didn't stop there; Nimmo continued to contribute, adding another RBI in the eighth inning. Finishing the night with an impressive 4-for-4 at-bat, tallying up 5 RBIs and 2 home runs, Nimmo's stellar display underscores his impact on the game. Notably, his recent form has been equally impressive, boasting a 6-for-12 streak with 8 RBIs. Tonight, Nimmo showcased his prowess as a key asset to the team's success.

Turning Point
Today's turning point came in the top of the fifth inning when the Mets found themselves trailing the Braves 4-1 . The tension mounted when Charlie Morton walked Jeff McNeil and Joey Wendle, setting the stage for Brandon Nimmo to emerge as the tying run. Nimmo seized the opportunity, launching his first home run of the season with a mighty 435-foot blast. This electrifying shot not only knotted the score at 4 but also injected much-needed energy into the Mets' against the Braves, marking a turning point in the game.
Three Keys
HEY MR. D.J.
D.J. Stewart seized a crucial moment to break his hitless streak and make an impact for the Mets. After enduring a dozen at-bats without a hit, Stewart found himself in a pivotal situation with two outs and a runner on second, the score deadlocked at 5 in the top of the eighth inning. Showing remarkable composure, Stewart faced Pierce Johnson's pitch and connected powerfully, sending the ball soaring deep into centerfield for a decisive two-run homer. This clutch hit not only ended his drought but also propelled the Mets to a 7-5 lead, reminiscent of Stewart's 2023 season and his ability to deliver under pressure.
NOT QUITE THE WAY HE DREW IT UP ..
Amidst a heavily burdened bullpen, Drew Smith was summoned to safeguard the Mets' 8-5 lead in the bottom of the 8th inning. The pressure mounted when Jake Diekman walked Michael Harris II to kick off the inning. Despite the challenge, Smith remained composed. He yielded a single to Orlando Arcia but bounced back with a crucial strikeout against the formidable Travis d'Arnaud, a known nemesis to the Mets. A wild pitch allowed Harris and Arcia to advance, but Smith responded by striking out Jarred Kelenic. However, the tension escalated as he issued consecutive walks to Ronald Acuna and Ozzie Albies, tightening the score to 8-6 and placing the dangerous Austin Riley at bat with the tying run at second base and two outs. With nerves of steel, Smith induced Riley to ground the ball to third baseman Brett Baty, who executed a force out at second base, thwarting the Braves' rally and preserving the Mets' lead.
TY KEEPS IT FROM BEING TIED
Navigating through the unforgiving territory of Atlanta, the Mets found themselves once again relying on their depleted bullpen. With the game hanging in the balance, Carlos Mendoza made the decisive call to summon Jorge Lopez for the closing duties. The inning commenced ominously as Matt Olson ignited the Braves' hopes with a double. Next up was Marcell Ozuna, who had already showcased his power with a home run earlier in the game. With the crowd on their feet, Ozuna unleashed a towering drive to left field, only to be denied by a spectacular leaping catch from Tyrone Taylor. However, the Braves managed to capitalize as Michael Harris II promptly drove Olson home and swiftly swiped second base. Despite the mounting pressure, Jorge Lopez displayed nerves of steel, expertly navigating through the perilous situation. He induced Orlando Arcia to pop out to Pete Alonso and sealed the victory by coaxing Travis d'Arnaud into a flyout to Starling Marte on the warning track, securing the save and clinching the win for the Mets.
