Stott, Marsh and Bohm Bring in 9 Runs to End Mets Season Embarrassingly

Phillies 9 Mets 1 (Citi Field, Flushing NY)

Mets record: 75-87

Mets streak: Lost 1

WP- Nick Nelson (1-0)

LP - Jose Butto (1-4)

Seat on the Korner: Bryson Stott

We select the star of the game and virtually invite him to a Seat on the Korner, just as Ralph Kiner used to do for his studio postgame show on WOR-channel 9 broadcasts in the early decades of the Mets.

Today's Seat on the Korner belongs to Bryson Stott, who went 3-4 today with an RBI in the top of the 3rd that started the scoring for the Phillies. Stott brought his average up to .280 in his second major league season.

Need to Know

  • Today, the Mets and Buck Showalter have mutually agreed to part ways, possibly ending Buck's 20+ year career as a manager.

  • Mets only rack up 2 hits today, coming from a Tim Lacastro home run and a single in the bottom of the 4th by Ronny Mauricio.

  • Jose Butto went 6 innings today, giving up 5 hits, 2 runs and 2 walks. He struck out 4.

  • Denyi Reyes gave up 5 runs on 6 hits in his 2.1 inning appearance today

  • The Phillies have won 7 of 13 games against the Mets this season.

Turning Point

Tonight's turning point of the game was in the bottom of the 3rd when Tim Lacastro hit a solo home run to tie the game.

From there, the Mets fell silent, only getting one hit and not scoring anymore runs. While the Phillies, on the other hand, broke open the scoring and scored 8 more runs, including 6 in the bottom of the 9th.

Three Keys

Jose Butto: Jose Butto went 6 innings today, giving up 2 runs, 5 hits and 2 walks. Butto got his 4th loss of the season today and boosted his ERA to 3.64.

Offensive Offense: Once again, offense has been lacking as the Mets only racked up 2 hits today and 1 run off the Tim Lacastro solo home run. Now that the season is over, it's time to bring together the offensive pieces that matter, including resigning Pete Alonso and developing the baby mets more. With David Stearns coming in tomorrow, all of this seems promising.

Buck Showalter: Today after the game, Steve Cohen did a press conference that explained the Buck Showalter firing and he basically said that he had the right to bring in his own people and that it was his (Stearns) decision.
