Seat on the Korner: Jake Burger

We select the star of the game and virtually invite him to a Seat on the Korner, just as Ralph Kiner used to do for his studio postgame show on WOR-channel 9 broadcasts in the early decades of the Mets.

Tonight's Seat on the Korner belongs to Jake Burger who had his 4th career walk off hit, as he singled in the winning run on a 2 strike 2 out pitch off of losing pitcher Trevor Gott after the Mets had rallied to tie it in the top of the ninth, Burger was 2 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI on the night.

Turning Point

Tonight's turning point of the game came in the bottom of the 9th after the Mets had a two out game tying two RBI double and Mets reliever Trevor Gott once again failed to get the job done, in his defense it did seem like he had a path out of the inning when he jammed Jake Burger who hit a foul pop that Francisco Alvarez seemed to have a chance to catch it for the third out, instead he stopped short and Burger made them pay.

Three Keys

Balk Talk

With the Mets already on top 1-0 in the top of the third, Francisco Lindor who had already forced Marlins starting pitcher Braxton Garrett to disengage twice, stole third base unconested, he then broke for home which forced Garrett to apparently balk, after the umpires discussed it they ruled it simply a disengagement throw home, replays show differently, instead of 2-0 lead the Mets had to settle taking a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the third.

NARDI DOING

After Marlins relief pitcher A.J. Puk literally was knocked out of the box,Andrew Nardi entered the game in the 7th inning tied for the major league lead among relievers with 30+ inherited runners,as he had only allowed 4 of the 36 runners to score. He came into the game with the bases loaded and lowered his 11.1% of inherited runners to score down to 10.25%

Wheels fall off

In the bottom of the 5th with the score tied 1-1 the wheels literally came off, Joey Lucchesi mistakenly thought the wheel play was on with runners on 1st and 2nd and Xavier Edwards up in a bunt situation, Lucchesi threw the ball to an unoccupied third base, allowing Jon Berti to come around with the go ahead run.
