The New York Mets played better baseball after the trade deadline, which won't change the overall narrative of the season but has made the vibes around the team much better. There were good performances across the board, especially in the lineup, but one player stood above the rest to earn Met of the Month honors for the month of August. That man is rookie outfielder Carson Benge.

Benge was incredibly productive in August, batting .317 with 5 home runs and 13 RBI in 101 at-bats. The Mets saw Benge post an .882 OPS for the month as he became a strong presence in the middle of the batting order, helping him mount a charge for the National League's Rookie of the Year honors. Cardinals' infielder J.J. Wetherholt has been leading that race after a strong start to the sason, but he has cooled off a bit and landed on the injured list this week, which should give Benge an opportunity to make up ground in the minds of voters.
Previous Mets Of The Month:
April: SP Clay Holmes
May: OF Juan Soto
June: 3B Bo Bichette
July: SP Nolan McLean
