May was certainly a step in the right direction for the New York Mets, who went 16-12 in the month to start to reverse the damage of a disastrous April. It may have been pulling teeth for the Mets to get results at times, but finishing the month on a four-game winning streak sets the stage nicely for a pivotal June.
The injury-riddled state of the roster meant that the Mets needed to essentially piece together every win they got. While Carson Benge was the runner-up after a prolific month where he hit .305 with two homers and 15 RBI, Juan Soto's heater at the end of the month helped him take home Met of the Month accolades.

The Mets got a ton from Soto's 96 at bats this month as he hit .281 with 10 home runs and 21 RBI, entering Sunday's series finale against Miami with an OPS of .951 for the month. Soto easily led the team in the power departments for the month of May, providing a steady anchor for the offense as the team awaits the returns of Francisco Lindor, Francisco Alvarez and Jorge Polanco from injury.
There is no chance that the Mets would be anywhere near a winning record in May without Soto's exploits given the state of their roster. It made him the very easy choice to take home Met of the Month honors.
