Mike's Met Of The Month, July 2025: David Peterson

The month of July was a busy one for the Mets, who snapped out of their malaise and played solid baseball to reclaim first place in the National League East. While the team's biggest hitters remained relatively cold, the Mets got enough contributions from around the diamond to pass Philadelphia in the division. While Edwin Diaz's seven save performance with a 0.00 ERA merited consideration for a second Met of the Month award, the honors for July will go to another Mets' All-Star, starting pitcher David Peterson.

David Peterson proved he was the ace of the Mets' staff in July.

Over the course of four July starts, Peterson went 2-0 with a 1.05 ERA, striking out 18 batters in 25.2 innings pitched. Peterson also made his first All Star team as an injury replacement, working a scoreless fourth inning for the National League team in Atlanta on July 15th.

The Mets have seen Peterson become their most dependable pitcher in terms of length as he has gone at least six innings in seven of his past nine starts, including all four of his outings in July. That dependability has been huge for the Mets, who have struggled to get enough outs from their starters as Kodai Senga and Sean Manaea work back into form following lengthy absences.

Previous Mets Of The Month:

May: RP Edwin Diaz

June: OF Juan Soto
