Seat on the Korner:

We select the star of the game and virtually invite him to a Seat on the Korner, just as Ralph Kiner used to do for his studio postgame show on WOR-channel 9 broadcasts in the early decades of the Mets.

Today's Seat on the Korner goes to Will Smith. While the top 3 in the Dodger lineup, along with Andy Pages and Tyler Glasnow, were strong contenders, Will Smith earned the spot. He threw out both Harrison Bader and Francisco Lindor and drove in two runs with his 5th inning double, securing the honor.

Turning Point

It's hard to pinpoint a turning point in such a rout, but with the Dodgers leading 3-0 in the bottom of the 5th and runners on 1st and 2nd, Shohei Ohtani hit a ball up the middle. Had it not struck Mets starting pitcher Adrian Houser, it likely would have resulted in a double play. Instead, Ohtani reached first, and the Dodgers capitalized with another 5 runs to break the game wide open.

Three Keys

NO ADRIAN

Adrian Houser was one of 15 pitchers in the majors that had yet to allow a home run in at least 15.0 innings of work. That ended today in the third inning today when he gave up a 2 run homer to Shohei Ohtani that moved him past Hideki Matsui for the most homers in MLB history by a Japanese-born player.

GLASNOW GEM

Tyler Glasnow bounced back from his last outing, his first loss of the 2024 season against Washington. In that start, he lasted only 5.0 innings, giving up six earned runs on eight hits and striking out five. Today, he pitched 8 shutout innings, allowing 7 hits with no walks and striking out 10.
