The 2026 Mets Prediction Series: Marcus Semien

We are now a few days away from Opening Day, which means across Mets Nation the annual ritual has begun.

No, not spring cleaning.

Prediction season.

From now until the first pitch of the season at Citi Field, we’re going to spend a few minutes each day here at Kiner’s Korner doing something Mets fans love almost as much as debating 50 years later whether Yogi Berra should have started George Stone in Game 6 and Tom Seaver in Game 7 of the 1973 World Series.

Trying to predict the future of the New York Mets.

And since none of us actually owns a functioning crystal ball mine was recalled in 1993 after predicting the Mets would win 110 games we’re going to lean on the next best things

the oddsmakers in Las Vegas and the statistical supercomputers that churn out projections all winter long.

So what do the baseball fortune tellers think about the 2026 Mets

Let’s continue with Marcus Semien.

At 35, Marcus Semien is no spring chicken. But what he brings to the Mets isn’t youth—it’s reliability, production, and experience. After years of anchoring middle infields across the American League, Semien arrives in Flushing ready to provide a steady presence at second base and a bat that can consistently change an inning.

Baseball Reference projects Semien to hit .242 with 17 home runs, 62 RBI, and 72 runs scored over roughly 540 plate appearances.

FanGraphs is slightly more optimistic, forecasting a .242 average, 20 home runs, 82 RBI, and a .242 batting average—basically the same floor, but with upside if health and timing align.

What stands out is his balance. Semien has always combined gap power with speed and patience at the plate. He’s not going to blow anyone away with sheer spectacle, but he consistently puts the ball in play, finds extra-base opportunities, and moves runners along. In a lineup that could sometimes rely on streaks, having Semien is like putting a metronome in the middle of the rhythm section.

Defense is similarly steady. Semien has never been flashy, but he covers ground, makes routine plays, and rarely costs a team an inning. At second base, the Mets can expect reliable footwork, solid hands, and a veteran approach that keeps the pitching staff confident.

So where do we land here at Kiner’s Korner where optimism occasionally overrides logic but always brings a calculator

Blending the projections and the eye test, we set the over/under lines for Semien’s 2026 season at

.242 batting average, 19 home runs, 78 RBI, and 75 runs scored.

The crystal ball, as always, is a little cloudy but here is what feels clear

Marcus Semien doesn’t bring flash. He brings consistency.

He doesn’t need to carry the lineup or be the story every night. What he does is quietly make things better. He provides a veteran presence, a dependable bat, and a stabilizing hand in the infield.
