The New York Mets had one of their best offensive months ever in August, which seems a bit odd considering they went just 11-17 in the month. While rookies Nolan McLean and Jonah Tong provided a lift for their pitching staff, the Mets' overall pitching performance left plenty to be desired over the past month.
The good news for the Mets is that their offense really started clicking after their first home stand, with Pete Alonso (.300/9 HR/29 RBI), Juan Soto (.277/10/22 with 11 stolen bases), Mark Vientos (.278/8/22) and Brett Baty (.338/4/7) all proving worthy of being Met of the Month in any other month. The competition was fierce for the honor in August, but the Met of the Month honoree is going to shortstop Francisco Lindor.

The Mets' offense has gone as Lindor has for the past few years, and his heater over the month of August served as a spark plug for the Mets' offense. Over the course of 117 at bats, Lindor hit .350 with six home runs, 17 RBI, nine stolen bases and a .997 OPS. The offense's strong work helped the Mets boost their postseason odds to just over 93 percent, bringing them one step closer to reaching the playoffs for the third time in four years, which would be a first for the franchise.
