September was certainly a month to remember for the Mets as they posted a torrid 17-9 finish to secure one of the most unexpected playoff berths in franchise history. There were plenty of strong performers down the stretch, including some excellent pitching performances from Jose Quintana (3-1 with a 0.72 ERA in four starts) and Tylor Megill (1-0, 2.45 ERA in five starts). On the offensive side, Francisco Lindor (.311/5 HR/12 RBI) continued to bolster his MVP credentials while Tyrone Taylor (.283/1/5) delivered plenty of clutch hits. The final Met of the Month for the regular season, however, goes to the man who helped deliver the anthem for the Mets' season: Jose Iglesias.
The Mets asked Iglesias to become an everyday player after Jeff McNeil was lost to injury and he stepped up in a big way, hitting an absurd .371 in September to become an anchor in a lineup that was a bit streaky. Iglesias ended the season on a 22-game hitting streak, which is the ninth-longest streak in franchise history. The offense also benefitted from Iglesias' ability to thrive in the clutch, including the game-tying hit in the eighth inning in Atlanta yesterday, making him a slam-dunk choice for Met of the Month honors.
